Alpha Motor teases a RWD electric truck with retro vibes

Californian startup Alpha Motor Co. has shared some renderings of a rear-wheel-drive pickup it considers releasing based on its proprietary Wolf chassis. With clean, nostalgia-inducing looks and up to 563 km (350 miles) of claimed range, the car’s only downside is that it doesn’t exist – just like all other prototypes that the company has shown us in the four years since it was founded.

The Alpha Wolf pickup has a single cab with a front fascia visibly inspired by JDM cars from the 1970s and ‘80s. Its whitewall tires and chromed hubcaps send us back another couple of decades back. All this retro goodness goes along with power-assisted door handles and LED lighting throughout.

The same theme carries over to the interior, which features traditional analog gauges and old-fashioned HVAC sliders under the infotainment touchscreen. The climate vents are round with chrome bezels.

Like all other projects envisioned by the EV startup, the truck rides on a skateboard platform with a built-in battery pack. You can choose between one motor (201 PS / 198 hp / 148 kW) or two (402 PS / 397 hp / 296 kW), as well as between 45 and 100 kilowatt-hours of power storage. The range maxes out at 563 km (350 miles).

Alpha claims the Wolf truck shown here is an entry-level spec. Its first version was unveiled three years ago, also in the form of 3D renderings. It was stated to be 4,765 mm (186.13 inches) long with a cargo bed sized 1,652 x 1,490 mm (64.53 x 58.2 in). In the spring of 2021, the company reckoned it could start from U.S. $36,000.
