Dongfeng reveals the eπ 008 during winter tests

Dongfeng’s EV sub-brand, eπ, has posted some images of its second production vehicle made during tests. It’s called the 008 and is a large six-seater SUV by design. The full reveal may take place at the Beijing Auto Show in late April, Autohome.cn supposes.

Starting at the front end, the eπ 008 looks very different from the 007 liftback (see video), which the company released on the domestic market in mid-March. For one thing, the headlights look completely different, ditching the stacked design for a solid LED strip. The same goes for the “pixelated” taillights. For wheels, buyers can choose between 20 and 21 inches and at least two low-drag hubcap options.

According to data from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and IT database, the eπ 008 is 5,002 mm long, 1,972 mm wide and 1,732 mm tall with 3,025 mm between the axles. That corresponds to 195.4 x 77 x 67.7 inches LWH with 118.2 inches of wheelbase. The interior seats six people; the patent application doesn’t mention any other seat configurations.

A spy pic of the interior posted earlier reveals that the dashboard is similar to that of the liftback. The digital gauge and infotainment screens are apparently the same, still sized 8.8 and 15.6 inches respectively. The multi-function steering wheel has a dual-spoke design, the physical buttons are kept down to a minimum and there is a wireless phone charging pad.

In its all-electric guise, the car comes equipped with a single e-motor driving the wheels with 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW). It’s still unknown which wheels those are, but we assume the rear ones. An 82.28-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack should give it 636 km (395 miles) of CLTC-rated driving range.

There will also be a hybrid variant with a 1.5-liter turbo engine acting as a range extender and a smaller battery pack. Whether there will be any AWD options remains unknown, but the eπ 007 does have a powertrain like that, driving each axle with its own 272-PS motor.
