Nio ET5 Touring debuts with 360kW of electric power

Minivans and crossovers reign supreme on the market of China, while estate cars are virtually non-existent. It is therefore refreshing to see Nio take a risk and produce the wagon-bodied ET5 Touring. Then again, the primary target market for the model is Europe, not China.

The car is based on the ET5 sedan and looks identical to it except at the rear. The tech is also the same, including an advanced self-driving system with a LiDAR mounted on the roof. One new thing on the outside is a power-retractable trailer hook.

The only drivetrain available at launch will offer dual e-motors driving all four wheels with 490 PS (483 hp / 360 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. The standard battery can store up to 75 kWh of power and yield 456 km (283 miles) of range according to the WLTP standard, but you can opt for a 100-kWh pack and get 590 km (366 miles).

The sales in Europe and China will begin before the end of summer, Nio says.
