Nissan GT-R R35 formally bows out

Nissan has officially ended the production of the R35 GT-R in Tochigi, Japan. One last sports car finished in a deep shade of purple and equipped with the optional T-Spec Premium Edition package rolled off the assembly line.

According to Nissan executive Ivan Espinosa, the story of the R35 is over, but the GT-R nameplate will ultimately return – it’s just too early to say when. The current generation had stayed in production for 18 years and sold around 48,000 units. The final example was made for a customer in Japan, just like 37% of the total production run.

Nissan never specified whether this final R35 GT-R was sold for a premium as a collector’s piece or just the list price.

For its entire life cycle, the GT-R had stuck to its trusty VR38DETT six-cylinder engine and ATTESA ET-S all-wheel-drive system, but the former kept receiving updates. What started as a 380-PS (375-hp / 279-kW) engine ultimately became capable of 570 PS (562 hp / 419 kW), while the Nismo version got 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW).
