Porsche’s first-ever 911 Turbo Hybrid spied out and about

Porsche has begun testing a soft-top version of its upcoming 911 Turbo Hybrid model. It can be seen wearing very little camo, so the premiere must be a few months away at most.

There is no official information regarding the powertrain right now, but the updates make us think about the GTS version. That one ended up with the same styling tweaks and a part-electric drivetrain, so we suppose the 911 Turbo may follow the same path.

Vertical “active louvers” in the front air intakes allow the car to balance between intake efficiency and air resistance depending on the situation. While not visible in the photos, the photographer claims the rear seat row is gone. The same applies to the rest of the facelifted 911 lineup, so it wouldn’t be surprising.

If the guess about the hybrid powertrain is correct, then the new 911 Turbo will use a petrol engine in tandem with an electric motor built into the PDK transmission. It will likely be smaller than the currently used 3.8-liter mill, but considerably more powerful at the same time. Rumors claim it may even exceed 700 PS (690 hp / 516 kW). Unlike some of its rivals, such as the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, the new 911 Turbo probably won’t have an all-electric drive mode.

Carscoops expects the refreshed 911 Turbo and Turbo S to debut in the fall, likely at the LA Auto Show starting on November 21.
