RML Group, a UK-based engineering company renowned for its motorsport projects, unveiled a prototype race car called the P39 last year. It ran on a Porsche 911 Turbo S chassis, but commanded 925 PS (912 hp / 680 kW) and was fully track-ready. What you see here is the first production car based on it.
Only 39 vehicles like this are scheduled for production, and the first example is called the 40th Anniversary Special Edition because it celebrates RML Group’s four decades in business. While it retains the stock windows, lights and mirrors, it wears a completely new body and aero kit fabricated from gorgeous purple carbon fiber. The profile with its long rear overhang reminds us of some Le Mans endurance racers.
…Which is probably not coincidental, since the car uses a 3.7-liter flat-six engine rebuilt from the ground up by Litchfield Motors. Twin turbos and other high-end upgrades drive the output to the abovementioned 925 metric hp and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque. Just how fast it is remains to be seen, but knowing RML, we have no doubt it’s a rocket.
A peek inside reveals a freshly remade leather cabin with body-matching carbon accents. Height-adjustable active suspension, rear seat removal and roll cage are all listed as available, but optional.
Owning a restomod like this starts from £495,000, which converts into U.S. $665,000. The amount includes the materials and the work, but doesn’t cover any taxes, and you still need to bring your own Porsche 911 Turbo S.
