2019 Proton Saga facelift launched in Malaysia

Proton, Malaysia’s largest car manufacturer curated by Geely, has come out with a 2019 facelift version of its Saga sedan/saloon. The changes go as far as the exterior, features, and tech.

The Saga series has been around since the 1980s and is currently in its third generation. Today’s update brings along a new radiator grille resembling those of the Proton X70, Persona and Iriz, new bumpers, and thin, LED-based anti-fog lights instead of the round lamps. The brand name now adorns the trunk lid.

Inside, the immediate highlight comes in the shape of a new 7-inch infotainment system (available in higher trims only). All trims benefit from different seat upholstery and an updated instrument panel with an LCD display located between the gauges.

The standard feature list now encompasses ABS+EBD, 2x airbags and a rear parking sensor. The top version additionally gets a rear view cam, a front parking sensor and ESC.

The car ships with a 1.3-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine rated at 95 hp (71 kW). Transmission choices include five-speed manual and four-speed automatic, the latter coming as a replacement for the old CVT.

The 2019 Proton Saga starts from the equivalent of U.S. $7,800.
