Apocalypse Manufacturing revealed its tri-axle take on the Ram 1500 TRX a few weeks ago, and is now following up with a video highlighting its real capabilities. Of course, as is usual with such projects, there are serious tradeoffs.
The Warlord featured an added third axle, which also receives its share of torque from the transmission, and rides on 18-inch wheels shod in 37-inch all-terrain rubber. The V8 under the hood stays stock, still sending 712 PS (702 hp / 534 kW) and 881 Nm (650 lb-ft) to an eight-speed automatic transmission. As you can see in the video, this is quite enough to traverse the off-road, go drifting and even cook up some impressive donuts on open ground.
What caught our attention, however, is the dashboard reading 4.3 miles per U.S. gallon. This would mean the truck burns 55 liters of gas per 100 kilometers covered, a rather dismal figure even by extreme tuning standards.
The other qualm we have regarding the Warlord 6x6 concerns its starting price of $250,000 USD before options. You can obtain a maxed-out Ram 1500 TRX – a superb performance pickup straight from the factory – for under $100,000. Adding a third axle sure sounds expensive, but must it be this expensive? What are your ideas?
