Rimac Automobili has wiped the floor with Tesla Model S Plaid by sending its Nevera hypercar to the Nürburgring track this weekend, setting an all-time best lap time in the Production EV category.
The Croatian company’s only car currently in production wore Michelin Cup 2R tires to the race. It completed the entire 20.8-kilometer (12.9-mile) long track in 7 minutes 5.298 seconds.
To put things into perspective, a Tesla Model S Plaid dominated the list of North Loop’s fastest cars in early summer with a time of 7:25.231. There is more than a 20-second difference between the two EVs. Then again, with 1,914 PS (1,888 hp / 1,408 kW) at its disposal, the Nevera had almost twice the power of the Tesla. It also cost more than the Tesla, by an order of magnitude.
The Nevera still landed sixth in the overall production car record list, slotting in between the Porsche 911 GT3 and the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. The Tesla Model S Plaid dropped four points from sixth to tenth place. So far, the Mercedes-AMG One remains the undisputed champion of the North Loop.
