Novelties
While the VW Atlas received its mid-generational refresh in North America last year, its Chinese cousin – the SAIC-VW Teramont – only follows suit now, and with quite some differences at that.
Based on the recently revealed official photos, the Teramont got to keep its two-tier headlights, whereas the Atlas traded those for new, much slimmer headlight design. A red brake strip now connects the taillights, and customers can specify wheels ranging from 17 to 21 inches across.
The coupe-shaped Teramont X from two years ago (see video) also received a mild refresh. External modifications are nearly non-existent, but SAIC-VW is now offering a sported-up R-Line trim with redesigned bumpers.
Interior shots haven’t arrived yet. As for the powertrains, the company has so far only confirmed that the old gasoline engine rated at 220 PS (217 hp / 162 kW) would remain in the lineup. The old Teramont was available with a 186-PS (183-hp / 137-kW) variant of the same engine, as well as a 2.5-liter turbocharged V6 good for 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW). A dual-clutch DQ500 transmission sends the momentum to the wheels in all of the above cases.
The premiere will likely be held in the coming days or weeks.
