Volkswagen’s Scout sub-brand that debuted in the USA last week with three production cars scheduled for 2027 has now released some preorder data for us to consider.
According to the company, 80% of the customers who chose to preorder a Scout vehicle last week went for a range-extender hybrid, rather than a “pure” EV. “Range extender” means the car uses an internal combustion engine as a power generator for the electric motor or multiple motors driving the wheels. The engine is usually not physically connected to the wheels in this case.
Out of the three vehicles Scout plans to bring to the market in 2027, two are already available to preorder. The company says the Traveler SUV received 60% of all orders and the Terra pickup received the remaining 40%.
Scout never revealed how many applications there was in total.
