Car Tuning
Many hot hatch enthusiasts remember that the fifth generation of the VW Golf R came with a six-cylinder capable of 250 PS (2247 hp / 184 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. Rewind forward two generations, and it switched to a four-pot rated at 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) – good for fuel economy, not so good for tuning.
The owner of this Mk7 Golf R swapped the engine to the six-banger mentioned above, and proceeded to tune it to the hilt. Installing dual Owen Developments turbos and raising the boost pressure to 2.9 Bar pushed the output to a fabulous 760 PS (750 hp / 559 kW), or more than three times the OEM power. The torque simultaneously skyrocketed to 960 Nm (708 lb-ft), necessitating a transmission overhaul.
The tuner left the exterior of the car largely untouched, but made sure to upgrade the cabin with some modern niceties, such as an infotainment system with a large screen and a digital dashboard.
Watch the entire 20-minute video if you would like a closer look at what its owner calls Great Britain’s most powerful Golf R.
