Video: Skoda family hauler gets an Audi engine and 720 PS

The pre-facelift Skoda Superb could be optioned with a four-cylinder engine rated at 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW) at best, but the example seen here packs two and a half times as much power.

An uncredited tuner replaced the stock four-pot with a five-banger sourced from an Audi RS 3. Even without any further tuning, it would have been a solid upgrade to 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW). However, plenty of tuning was applied to it to persuade it to deliver 720 PS (710 hp / 530 kW) and 830 Nm (612 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels.

As a result, the bulky wagon now sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in supercar-defying 3.32 seconds and proceeds to hit 200 km/h (124 mph) in another 6.06 seconds. It completes a quarter-mile run in 10.77 seconds. Judging by the video, the driver nearly hits 300 km/h (186 mph) in it, but the odometer seemingly gives up after 260 km/h (161 mph).

On an interesting side note, the Czech automaker had slotted large and powerful engines into its cars long before becoming a part of VW Group. Back in the 1930s and ‘40s when the first-gen Skoda Superb came out, it was obtainable with a beefy 4.0-liter V8 and a number of inline-six options.
