Skoda students pay homage to the ‘60s-era Shelby Daytona

Espera Sbarro, an automotive design school located in Montbéliard, France, has presented the latest project carried out by a team of 25 students: a vehicle looking just like the Shelby Daytona coupe from the sixties. Dubbed the Heritage ESX, it took five months to build.

The proportions and design traits seem a bit exaggerated compared to the original, but the semblance is definitely there. Rather than trying to be a precise replica, the car bets on a mix between retro and modern with cool aerodynamic parts, 19-inch wheels and LED lighting all around. Interestingly, the headlights come from a recent Ford Puma.

The interior shines with Spartan minimalism and only looks anachronistic because of all the added carbon trim bits, as well as a large infotainment display.

According to Espera Sbarro, the replica rides on a custom tube frame and commands a powerful 5.0-liter Ford V8. The output is unknown, but with a curb weight as low as 1,150 kilos (2,535 pounds), it should be a fast ride.
