Smart #6 shows up for the first time, looking not that Smart

Smart, a vehicle brand once known for its tiny and well-appointed urban cars, has unveiled its biggest vehicle to date: the #6. It is slated to debut on April 22, but many details have already leaked online via reliable sources.

On the outside, the liftback looks little like the marque’s other models and instead resembles a typical EV for the Chinese domestic market. It is also anything but small at 4,906 mm (191.6 inches) long, 1,922 mm (75.1 inches) wide and 1,508 mm (58.9 inches) tall with 2,926 mm (114.3 inches) between the axles. Listed options include 20-inch wheels and adaptive shocks.

A peek inside reveals that the car strongly resembles the recently introduced Smart #5 (see video). There’s a three-spoke steering wheel slightly squared from below, a rounded ultrawide display in the middle of the dash, and a rather basic center tunnel.

According to the certification data, the #6 is coming to us armed with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine and some e-motors joining their efforts for 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW) total. The automaker reckons that it can get 285 kilometers (177 miles) of range in all-electric mode and around 1,800 km (1,118 miles) in hybrid mode.

Incidentally, Smart has also been getting ready to unveil another new car soon – a truly compact three-door hatchback called the #2. We suppose the two could debut at the same time.
