Novelties
SsangYong has scheduled the premiere of its “all-new” Rexton SUV for November 4, 2020. The automaker makes it sound like the next generation is coming up, but the teaser pics leave us worried that the car makes do with a moderate facelift instead.
The official images provide a close-up view of new headlights (Matrix LEDs, by the look of it) and an octagonal radiator grille. The exterior looks much edgier and sharper overall and shares nothing in common with the old version.
Technical specifications aren’t here yet. The current Rexton comes with a 2.2-liter diesel engine rated at 187 hp (139 kW) and 422 Nm (311 lb-ft) of torque. Rumors say the next generation won’t be different. Then again, SsangYong could borrow a gas powertrain from the Mahindra mStallion family. A 2.0-liter, four-cylinder TGDi unit rated for 190 hp (142 kW) would be nice, don’t you think?
