Stelato S9T scores 20,000 preorders in a day

Stelato, a premium automotive brand co-founded between BAIC Group and Huawei, has reported receiving over 20,000 deposits for its newest vehicle – the S9T premium wagon priced from 328,000 to 388,000 Yuan.

CarNewsChina warns that the statistics may be misleading, though. Making an order is as simple as transferring a 2,000-Yuan ($280) advance payment. The sales won’t begin until mid-September, and the buyers are free to cancel their reservations with full refund.

The S9T is Stelato’s second production vehicle after the S9 sedan. Both are based on the same platform, but the estate benefits from being 5,160 mm (201.6 inches) long with 3,050 mm (119.2 inches) between the axles. Even with the seats up, it has 660 liters (23.3 cubic feet) of trunk space.

There are three powertrains to chose from. One uses a 309-PS (304-hp / 227-kW) motor at the front axle and runs on electricity alone. It can cover 801 km (497 miles) per charge. Another one adds a 160-PS (158-hp / 118-kW) petrol engine to extend the range to 1,305 km (811 miles). An AWD flagship is also available with dual motors and 523 PS (516 hp / 385 kW) heading for the wheels. Its range remains to be announced.
