Tuners resolve the oil issue plaguing the latest Toyota GR86 & Subaru BRZ

Two closely related sports cars, the Toyota GR86 and the Subaru BRZ, are somewhat infamous for their weird oil issue: the engine begins to starve at higher G-loads while everything else seems fine. Well, tuners appear to have nailed down the issue and developed what they claim is the perfect solution.

Brian from @900BRZ on YouTube was the first to raise the alarm. He noticed that the oil pump pressure props inexplicably whenever the car goes through a sharp curve on a track. He narrowed down the issue to the second-generation GR86 and BRZ, finding that the first generation didn’t suffer from it at all.

Using these findings as a starting point, Verus Engineering discovered that oil would often slosh over the timing cover and linger there. Furthermore, asymmetrical layout of the oil pan meant that oil would often stay spread over it for longer than the engine could handle, resulting in starvation.

The obvious solution was to simply increase the oil amount in the system from 5 to 6.62 liters (~5.3 to 7 U.S. liquid quarts). However, unwilling to stop there, Verus also designed and 3D-printed a new pan with a built-in baffle for improved circulation. The video here clearly demonstrates that the problem goes away completely with these relatively simple tweaks.

Affected owners may order the relevant parts for installation straight from Verus in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.
