GWM teases a new Tank lineup flagship

According to Great Wall Motor CEO Gu Yukun as quoted by CarNewsChina, the company’s Tank SUV family will greet a new member in March this year. Touted as a “luxury off-roader”, it will assume the topmost position in the company’s lineup, dethroning the Tank 700.

The announcement lacks details, but looking at the automaker’s current portfolio, it seems likely that it will be a plug-in hybrid with several dozen kilometers of all-electric range. Considering the current strategy of the brand, it would also make sense for this new off-roader to get an international release.

In the meantime, Tank continues testing its entire vehicle fleet in winter off-road conditions (see video). One of the models being tested is a new modification of the best-selling Tank 300 SUV upgraded with a longer wheelbase, a solid-beam front end and a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 under the hood.
