Public data suggests Tesla Cybertruck is on 5-year backorder

The production of the Tesla Cybertruck has only just begun, but deliveries all the pre-ordered trucks may take the company from four to five years, Teslarati has found.

According to a publicly available crowdfunding database, the futuristic EV has garnered over 1,943,000 reservations so far. Considering that the company only accepted orders against $100 deposits, it essentially ended up with $194,000,000 on its hands without shipping a single unit.

The orders were divided more or less evenly between the dual-motor (43.9%) and tri-motor (39.2%) versions of the Cybertruck. Only 8.2% of the customers opted for the entry-level, single-motor, RWD modification of the truck that Tesla said would be the first to reach production. Another 8.7% indicated that they would choose a quad-motor version.

Unofficial reports have been claiming that Tesla did not originally plan to produce the Cybertruck with one or four motors – just two or three. It remains to be confirmed, though.

Even taking into account the possible order cancellations, two million orders will most likely take Tesla Inc. several years to process.
