VW Golf R & GTI Clubsport prices announced

Volkswagen has put price stickers on its Golf GTI Clubsport and Golf R for Germany.

The company plans on offering the facelifted GTI Clubsport starting from €48,075, a sizeable premium over the €27,200 base car price. For this money, the company’s strongest FWD Golf gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW). It also receives a front diff lock and an optional speed limit removal that raises the top speed from 250 to 267 km/h (from 155 to 166 mph).

In turn, the Golf R hot hatch gets 333 PS (328 hp / 245 kW) heading for all four wheels, a dual-clutch transmission and an asking price of €53,795. Its wagon counterpart starts from €55,065. If you want a Black Edition, set aside at least €58,440.

The update looks admittedly rather mild for the Golf R, adding just 13 horsepower (10 kilowatts) to the output and dropping the manual transmission. Volkswagen says the standard 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time amounts to 4.6 seconds for the R hatchback and 4.8 seconds for the R wagon. The top speed is capped at 250 km/h (155 mph), but can be lifted to 270 km/h (167 mph) with the usual Performance upgrade. New options for those interested in maxing out their Golf include Warmenau lightweight forged wheels and an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system.
