In order to keep the manufacturing costs low and the asking price below the promised €20,000 mark, Volkswagen will be making its next electric car – the ID. Every1 – in Portugal from Chinese parts.
The automaker argues that labor costs are among the lowest in that country, so major cost optimizations can be achieved.
Volkswagen already has a car factory running in Portugal, but it hasn’t produced anything besides the T-ROC SUV until now.
