An SUV resembling the all-electric Volkswagen ID.Cross Concept (see video) has been spotted in Germany the other day. The general expectation is such that it is a new ID.4 model, but given Volkswagen’s desire to move away from obscure alphanumeric indexes to more human-sounding names, it might end up called “ID.Tiguan”, according to some.
The vehicle seen in the gallery above wears lots of fake body panels, so it may be too early to make conclusions about its appearance. Even so, it is visibly less curvy and more angular than the ID.4, something that could help Volkswagen EVs regain a bit of character. It’s definitely all-electric, too: note the lack of a radiator grille or tailpipes.
The interior of the alleged new ID.4/ID.Tiguan is expected to be a mix of modernity and tradition. On the one hand, the company will likely put three large displays on the dash. On the other, it will bring back the much-demanded physical buttons. On the powertrain front of things, rumors suggest the EV might wind up with a more modern and cheaper LFP battery pack. The range might increase, but motor output will likely stay the same.
The official premiere should be several months away.
