Volkswagen has officially revealed the ID.7, an all-electric vehicle destined to phase out the Passat saloon and occupy the pinnacle of the ID lineup. The sales are scheduled to start this fall.
The liftback is 4.96 meters (roughly 194 inches) long and has 2.96 meters (116 inches) between the axles. This makes it comparable with the Mercedes-Benz EQE in terms of size. The exterior resembles that of the company’s other EVs, and the drag ratio is a record-low 0.23 despite the size. The company claims it plays a crucial role in maximizing the range of the car.
For the time being, the only version revealed is a base RWD spec with a new motor installed at the rear axle, driving it with 286 PS (282 hp / 210 kW). Batteries come in two sizes: 82 kWh gives you 615 km (382 miles) on a charge, while 91 kWh nets you 700 km (435 miles).
The production for both the European markets and North America will take place at the same factory in Emden, Germany. China will get its own variants of the ID.7 from the local FAW-VW and SAIC-VW joint enterprises. That country will also get a different base spec running on a 204-PS (201-hp / 150-kW) motor and a smaller 77-kWh battery.
