Volkswagen ID.3 & ID.7 Tourer gain a GTX flagship spec

Volkswagen has expanded the lineups of its ID.3 sedan and ID.7 wagon with a new high-end trim called the GTX. It makes the ID.7 the company’s most powerful family car ever produced. Sales are starting soon, so let’s have a look.

The standard ID.3 GTX hot hatch gets the same motor as the ID.4, rated at 286 PS (282 hp / 210 kW). It needs six seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill. A new version called Performance adds another motor to the mix, bumping up the output to 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW) and reducing the sprint time to 5.6 seconds. The respective top speeds for the GTX and GTX Performance trims are 180 and 200 km/h (112 and 124 mph). Both come with a 79-kWh battery pack manufacturer-rated at 600 km (373 miles) of range.

On the exterior side of things, the new ID.3 sports a revised front bumper and a matching rear diffuser. The lights all around have been redesigned, too, and the wheels now measure 20 inches in diameter. For the interior, you can opt for ergoActive seats with integrated headrests and adjustable hip supports. Upgraded suspension is listed as standard for both the GTX and the GTX Performance, but the latter also gets adaptive shocks in the base spec.

For its own part, the VW ID.7 GTX Tourer gains some further aerodynamic improvements and a sported-up interior. It can be optioned with DCC shocks and wheels sized up to 21 inches large. The company also points out improved sway bars and revised steering.

The ID.7 GTX Tourer will go on sale exclusively as a dual-motor/AWD car. The powertrain is rated at 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) and can take the family hauler to a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph). The acceleration times aren’t specified, though. Volkswagen points out that the wagon goes RWD by default and only engages the front-axle motor when necessary. It also offers an electronic diff lock. The battery holds up to 86 kWh of power and takes less than half an hour to charge from 10 to 80% at a sufficiently powerful charging station.
