The next generation of the Volkswagen T-Roc will arrive without a topless version, Automotive News Europe reports arguing that the demand is too low for this body style in Europe right now.
The standard T-Roc SUV debuted in Europe in 2017. Two years later, it received a new version with a folding soft top, named the Cabriolet. The open-topped Range Rover Evoque and the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet had already left Europe by that time, leaving the unusual vehicle without serious competition.
In 2021, the automaker overhauled the entire T-Roc lineup in terms of visual design, multimedia features and safety systems. Last year, the T-Roc SUV was recognized as Europe’s third best-selling crossover with 191,015 units sold from January through November.
The T-Roc Cabriolet has found 11,693 buyers over the same period. It was by no means a bad result, because MINI was the only car brand in the Old World to have more success selling open cars last year. Still, the executives at Volkswagen must have expected more because they decided not to produce another generation of it, Automotive News Europe says.
