Tank 800 spied testing

Great Wall-owned car brand Tank is testing a new SUV called the 800. AutoHome believes it could be the marque’s new flagship pointing out the luxury interior and dimensions. Sales start remains to be announced.

The concept (see video) debuted at the Shanghai Expo a few years ago. The pre-production vehicle looks almost identical to it with similar headlights and large radiator grille easily visible through the camo. Size-wise, the car could be over five meters (16.4 feet) long. The taillights look simplified.

The rear section from the c-pillars to the window frames remains completely cladded – perhaps so as not to draw too much attention towards the interior trim. This provokes the speculation that the Tank 800 could be a luxury four-seater with power-adjustable and ventilated massage seats in the back row. The occupants of the back row may also get their own capacitive controls for the multimedia system and HVAC.

The platform and the powertrain may be inherited from the smaller Tank 500 model. In China, the latter ships with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 assisted by an electric starter for 354 PS (349 hp / 260 kW) and 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is nine-speed automatic. That being said, it could as well be a plug-in hybrid.
