IT giant Xiaomi has launched its first production car, the all-electric SU7 sedan.
The vehicle is 4,997 x 1,963 x 1,440 mm large with 3 meters of space between the axles. In its top spec, it commands two motors jointly rated at 673 PS (664 hp / 495 kW) and 838 Nm (618 lb-ft) of torque. It zaps from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.78 seconds and doesn’t hit its speed ceiling until 265 km/h (165 mph).
There is also a single-motor spec with 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) and a 5.28-second sprint time.
The entry spec gets 668 km (415 miles) of range from its battery. The flagship benefits from a 101-kWh pack and a record-low drag ratio of 0.195 (as long as there is no roof-mounted LiDAR), giving it roughly 800 km or 500 miles of range. While not official, rumors suggest that there will be four specs to choose from in total when shipments begin early next year. In any case, recharging the battery for 510 km (317 miles) of driving will take roughly 15 minutes.
Interior highlights include a 7.1-inch instrument display, a 16.1-inch infotainment screen and a 56-inch projected HUD. The multimedia system runs on a Qualcomm 8295 chipset and benefits from Xiaomi’s own operating system software.
The company boasts that it has designed a whole lineup of electric motors with an efficiency ratio over 98%. The least powerful of them has 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, while the most powerful one delivers 578 PS (570 hp / 425 kW) along with 635 Nm (468 lb-ft) of torque.
The exact shipping start date is unknown; Xiaomi specifies only ‘Q1 2024’.
