Xiaomi denies faulty software in the rogue SU7

Following a viral incident with a Xiaomi SU7 seemingly starting to drive itself with an empty driver’s seat, the company has posted a detailed investigation report on Weibo where it blames the owners for negligence.

The Chinese IT giant stresses that it treated the report “very seriously” and put together an investigation committee as soon as the video of the incident went online. The people from the investigation team worked closely with the owners of the car, who each admitted that they had the company’s remote control app installed on their smartphone.

After studying the telemetry and logs, it turned out that the SU7 started moving after receiving a self-parking command from one of the owners’ smartphones. The automaker insists that it couldn’t have been done from afar: the command only works within the reach of a normal Bluetooth link of several meters.

CarNewsChina adds that a Weibo user who introduced himself as the owner of the SU7 confirmed all conclusions published by Xiaomi and called upon the rest of the users to stop spreading disinformation. He also claimed that there was no injury or material damage whatsoever.
