Xpeng Motors has revealed its third production car: a compact-sized fastback/sedan named the P5 will be joining the company of the G3 mini-CUV and P7 full-size saloon.
The company itself categorizes the car as a fastback thanks to its slanted roof at the rear. The lights all-around are LED-based, the door handles slide out, and there are charging ports in both front fenders.
At 4,808 mm (15.77 ft.) long with 2,768 mm (9.08 ft.) of wheelbase, the P5 is not exactly petite. The Tesla Model 3, for instance, is shorter at 4,694 mm (15.4 ft.) with 2,875 mm (9.43 ft.) between the axles.
The cabin of the Chinese EV houses a digital dashboard and a 15.6-inch multimedia tablet. Paying extra unlocks panoramic sunroof, a fridge, and a special mode called Sleeping Mode, which lets you push the front seat backs all the way to the floor to make two passable beds when the car is parked.
The company proudly calls its XPILOT 3.5 self-driving system the most advanced one to find its way into a production vehicle so far. Included in the package are two front-facing LIDARs, 13 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and a few 5mm wave radars. The car is said to be able to identify and tell other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians from each other.
Pricing, powertrains and battery ranges remain to be announced. Stay tuned for the debut at the Auto Shanghai show on April 19, 2021.
