Xpeng G6 EREV gets patented in China

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and IT has shared the first photos and specifications of the upcoming range-extender hybrid version of the Xpeng G6. The current version (see video) is fully electric.

According to CarNewsChina, the two models look virtually identical but the EREV squeezes more range out of its powertrain thanks to a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) as a power generator. It also packs a rather large 55.8-kWh battery WLTC-rated at 325 km (202 miles). Just how far the coupe-like SUV can get on a full tank remains to be disclosed.

All propulsion is handled by a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle. It produces 296 PS (292 hp / 218 kW) and can take the SUV to a top speed of 202 km/h (125 mph).

Coming in at 4,771 mm (186.4 inches) long, 1,920 mm (75 inches) wide and 1,650 mm (64.5 inches) tall with 2,890 mm (112.9 inches) between the axles, the Xpeng G6 EREV is no different in size from its all-electric counterpart. Buyers can choose from two wheel size options – 18 and 20 inches.

The launch date is pending, but it looks like the sales should start before the end of the year. The G6 EV is currently offered in China starting from 177,000 Yuan before options. Interestingly enough, the battery sizes aren’t too different between these two versions: while the new EREV has 55.8 kilowatt-hours, the EV has 66.
