Xpeng G7 scores 10,000 preorders in nine minutes

Chinese automaker Xpeng has just launched its G7 SUV on the domestic market, giving it a single electric motor but packing it full of modern tech to rival that of the Tesla Model Y or Xiaomi YU7.

Prices start from 195,800 Yuan, AutoHome.cn reports. In turn, the automaker claims it had received over 10,000 confirmed preorders backed by advance payments in mere nine minutes from launch.

The newcomer slots in between the G6 and the G9 in the Xpeng lineup. It is sized 4,892 x 1,925 x 1,655 mm large with 2,890 mm between the axles. The interior only has two seat rows, and the trunk size maxes out at 819 liters (28.9 cubic feet).

All propulsion is handled by a single e-motor rated at 296 PS (292 hp / 218 kW) It takes the SUV from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds. Batteries are available in 68.5-kWh and 80,8-kWh sizes. The former is good for 602 km (374 miles) of Chinese electric range, and the latter lasts 702 km (436 miles). Fast charging only takes 12–15 minutes.

Inside, the infotainment system runs on Snapdragon 8295 hardware, resides on a 15.6-inch touchscreen display and supports up to 20 speakers. The dashboard in the traditional sense doesn’t exist, but an 87-inch heads-up display more than compensates for that with features like AR-powered navigation.

Last but not least, there is a new ADAS package listed under options, but it’s exclusive to the 225,800-Yuan top spec od the Xpeng G7. It utilizes a trio of chipsets developed by the company in the house, reportedly capable of 2,250 TOPS combined. Among other things, it means that the car may receive a Level 3 self-driving system in the future. All lower trims make do with a simpler Nvidia Orin-X chipset with a processing power of 508 TOPS.
