Car Tuning

You can now put together your own Peel P50 saving £3k

One of the earlier Top Gear episodes (see below) was dedicated to the Peel P.50 – a unique tiny three-wheel car only 137 cm (53.5 inches) long. The company only made 47 units, out of which 30 survived to this day. Now, not only can you buy a continuation replica – you can assemble one yourself.

In the early 2010s, two entrepreneurs decided to revive the brand and sell manually-assembled microcars with petrol and electric drivetrains to choose from. The company – named Pendine Motors – offered three main versions of the car: the classic P.50, a limited-run cabriolet and the two-seat Trident. Now, it has added a DIY variant of the standard P.50 to the catalog.

The entry-level package will set you back £10,379, which saves you more than £3,000 compared to buying a ready car. The kit includes a small 2kW electric motor and a traction battery good for 50 miles (80 km) of range.

The assembly takes 50 hours on average and requires no special tools or equipment, Pendine Motors points out.
