Audi announces a brand new form of entertainment

Audi has teased a few innovative car entertainment solutions just ahead of the CES 2019 show in Las-Vegas. Called the Audi Experience Ride, one of the highlights of the new entertainment system is that it enables you to turn your car into a virtual spaceship straight out of the Marvel’s ‘Avengers’ or ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise.

All the rear passengers have to do to get on board the spaceship is put on special VR goggles. Whenever the car turns left, the ship will turn left as well, as if giving an asteroid or another obstacle a wide berth. Whenever the car accelerates or brakes, so does the ship.

Aside from immersive VR games, the Audi Experience Ride also has movies and interactive shows on offer. Later on, Audi promises to make the platform open to all car manufacturers and software developers to design their own apps for it.

Another highlight of the presentation is an in-car interactive cinema. It can only be activated when the vehicle is parked and works in the opposite manner to the virtual ship described above. When a movie starts playing, the car reacts to the events on-screen (explosions, chases etc.) by vibrating, shaking and otherwise moving to create immersion.

The company didn’t provide any estimates on just when we should expect the tech to reach mass market.
