Baojun RM-5 MPV goes into production

Baojun, a car marque co-founded by General Motors and SAIC Group, has launched its RM-5 compact van into production. Let us review what kind of features we should expect.

The miniature van has fully LED-based lighting and quite a characteristic exterior. In terms of dimensions, it reminds us of the 3rd-gen Opel Zakira (Europe version). In its most basic trim, the Baojun RM-5 ships with seats for 5 people, but you can opt for more expensive variants with 6 or 7 seats.

The interior is not what we used to seeing in same-platform vehicles. There is a new dual-spoke steering wheel, a duo of LED displays fulfilling the roles of the instrument cluster and the entertainment system, and a touch-based climate control pad. Paid options include adaptive cruise control, panoramic glass roof, and combination seat upholstery.

Regardless of the trim level, the car always ships with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 147 hp (110 kW). You can choose manual or CVT, but AWD is not an option in either case.

Sales begin this autumn; the prices will be revealed closer to the (still unannounced) launch date.
