New Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets smart suspension from the G-Class

Aside from the state-of-the-art MBUX infotainment system and an innovative heads-up display (we reported), the impending 7th-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class is getting the company’s signature suspension design called E-Active Body Control.

The hydraulically assisted air suspension is currently used in the GLE and GLS class vehicles. It combines air-ride suspension struts with hydraulic accumulators and is adjustable on a per-spring and per-shock basis. If a lateral collision seems imminent, the suspension control system can kick the relevant side of the car body up all the way to minimize the impact.

Other noteworthy features include four-wheel steering, active blind zone monitoring, and an emergency assist that can help you clear the road safely for an ambulance or a fire truck to pass through.

The seventh generation of the S-Class will celebrate its worldwide premiere on September 2, 2020.
