1st-gen Aston Martin Vanquish can be a Shooting Brake if you want it

Ian Callum, former Jaguar designer who left the company in 2019 and founded his own studio called Callum Designs, has announced an ambitious project. It involves taking the first-generation Aston Martin Vanquish and rebuilding it in a Shooting Brake body for well-off clients.

Callum – who had penned the original Vanquish model back in the day – took to his social media pages to confirm that anyone wanting a car like that is welcome to contact him and discuss the details.

He also posted a handful of pics of the proposed three-door sports estate, exposing its all-new rear end with an added trunk area, rear window and lower rear spoiler. The front end stayed largely unchanged, but ended up with revised headlight patterns and new air intakes in the bumper.

For the 5.9-liter V12, Callum suggests a tune-up to 588 PS (580 hp / 432 kW). Customers will be free to choose between six-speed manual and six-speed automatic for the transmission, which is interesting because the original car went manual-only. All pricing is private, as usual.

Back when it debuted, the Vanquish Mk1 relied on a 460-PS (454-hp / 338-kW) engine to take it from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds. It could also reach 306 km/h (190 mph) in a straight line. A boosted “S” version used the same engine dialed up to 520 PS (513 hp / 382 kW). It was a faster sprinter with a 4.5-second time and could hit 321 km/h (200 mph). While the standard car was a two-seat coupe by design, Aston Martin also offered it in a 2+2 four-seater version.
