For the first time since 2011, Audi is working on a four-door modification of the RS 6. As these spy photos suggest, the sedan is coming back to us after two whole generations of non-production. It is expected to debut next year and finally provide the BMW M5 with some much-needed competition.
The aero kit in particular makes us think this is an RS vehicle. There is an aggressive front bumper with a large air intake, a fairly compact rear spoiler, flared rear arches and gill-like vents in the front ones. Last but not least, the images reveal large-diameter brake discs and oval tailpipes – sure signs of a sporty Audi. Carscoops, which published these shots, also points out a lower suspension than on the regular A6 model (see video).
There are multiple theories about the powertrain. According to one, the new RS 6 saloon may arrive packing a plug-in hybrid system based on a robust V6. A less likely but still exciting possibility is that the car gets a twin-turbo V8, just somewhat toned down and hybridized to conform with the emission regulations. Either should be capable of at least 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW).
The one thing we are almost positive about is that it’s a hybrid. Note the small yellow warning sticker on the driver’s door window. The text is illegible, but such stickers are typically put on part-electric vehicles.
