CarWOW has arranged for a quarter-mile race between three AWD station wagons: an Audi S4 Avant, a BMW M340i xDrive Touring and a Volvo V60 T8 Twin Engine AWD. How did they fare?
Powering the S4 is a mild-hybrid system centered on a diesel V6 3.0 good for 347 PS (342 hp / 255 kW), which receives an extra 11 PS (11 hp / 8 kW) from a starter-generator. It weighs in at 1,825 kg (4,024 lbs).
The M340i lacks the electric add-on and makes do with a gasoline inline-six turbocharged to deliver 374 PS (369 hp / 275 kW). Aside from being more powerful than the Audi, it is also 80 kg (176 lbs) lighter.
The Volvo V60 T8 Twin Engine AWD is a plug-on hybrid that combines a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle. The total output amounts to 390 PS (385 hp / 287 kW) and 640 Nm (472 lb-ft) of torque, and the car weighs 1,990 kg (4,387 lbs).
