Beijing BJ60 breaks cover with crossover looks, plenty of SUV goodness

Beijing posted the first official photos of its new mid-size SUV – the BJ60 – in mid-May, and has now followed up with a full reveal of the model.

The BJ60 may lack frame, which precludes it from being classified as a true off-roader, but it still has much going for it in that specific department. For one thing, it offers a part-time AWD system with a hard coupling, a reduction gear with a 2.54 ratio, three differential locks, and nine drive modes to select among.

The stock 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder on board receives assistance from a 48V starter-generator, producing a combined 266 PS (262 hp / 196 kW) and 406 Nm (299 lb-ft) of torque. A ZF eight-speed automatic transmission drives the wheels, enabling a sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in six seconds.

The car is sized 5,040 x 1,955 x 1,925 x 2,820 millimeters (L/W/H/WB). The tailgate houses a spare wheel and swing open. There is enough room for five or seven passengers inside the car, and two gas tanks for 85 and 35 liters of fuel. Wheels come in 18- and 20-inch sizes.

A peek inside reveals a dual display that merges a 10.3-inch digital dash screen with a 12.8-inch infotainment display supporting voice commands and OTA updates. The ambient lighting system has 256 presets to switch between, and one of them projects a stylized mountain landscape onto the dash before of the front passenger.

Equipment on board includes HVAC and massage functions for the front seats, adaptive cruise control, dash cam, HUD, active noise proofing, double glass dome, Infinity audio, two 220V power sockets, and much more. A separate small display is provided to serve as the engine launch button, but you can customize it Apple Watch-style to have other functions, too.
