Bugatti brings back the Veyron, but it’s no longer the same car

The French hypercar brand has delivered a one-off coupe inspired by the legendary Bugatti Veyron from two decades ago. It runs on a modern Chiron chassis using its 1,600-PS W16 engine and is destined to remain unique, the company’s Solitaire division says.

The exterior wears a nostalgia-inducing combo of red and black and does its best to pass for a Veyron. Custom bodywork, lighting and aero parts do leave a nice impression, but there’s still no mistaking the replica for the original. The proportions are just too different, and it can’t be helped.

The cabin also does its best to promote the retro theme, but digital dash gauges and a modern steering wheel with numerous stalks and buttons dispel the illusion. The console is occupied by HVAC knobs and features an exclusive Audemars Piguet chronometer. The headrests wear the signature of Ferdinand Piech, the mastermind behind the original Veyron.

The powertrain stays unmodded, but no one really expects otherwise from an 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W16 tuned to deliver 1,600 PS (1,578 hp / 1,177 kW) at the crank. That’s a massive leap forward even compared to the original’s impressive 1,001 PS (987 hp / 736 kW).

No mention of the price has been made. Bugatti’s Solitaire division say it can only deliver two such deeply personalized vehicles per year, so with this Veyron tribute complete, only one production slot remains for 2026.
