Meet BYD Yuan UP, a sub-100CNY electric CUV for China

The Ministry of Industry of China has released data on BYD’s latest electric car – the compact-sized Yuan UP. The novelty looks close to the Song L model and uses tech similar to that of the Dolphin EV (see video). It will go on sale in 2024 priced under 100,000 Yuan, Car News China reports.

The Yuan UP is a part of the carmaker’s lineup dedicated to the Emperors of China. Like the Han, Song, Tang and Qin models, it is named after a ruler of the past and joins the company of the Yuan Plus (a.k.a. Atto 3) and Yuan Pro on the domestic market.

It is a five-seater that’s 4,310 mm long, 1,830 mm wide and 1,675 mm tall with 2,620 mm between the axles. It rides on 16-inch wheels with the option for 17-inch ones and offers a panoramic sunroof.

Based on the documentation, customers can choose from two electric motors – 95 PS (94 hp / 70 kW) and 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW). Both utilize a Blade-series LiFePo4 battery pack of so far unspecified capacity. The top speed will not exceed 160 km/h (99 mph) even with the stronger motor installed.
