Vanguard Motor Sales has a particularly appealing Chevrolet Bel Air restomod on sale right now for the asking price of U.S. $129,900. The American automotive icon has been fully restored in a frame-off fashion with only a few modern features thrown in, like power windows and AC.
Working with the 68-year-old car, an uncredited restorer cleaned it of all rust specks and other signs of age to repaint anew. Unlike many modern restomods, this one was also generously dipped in chrome. The front bumper, radiator grille, headlight bezels, wheels and the entire rear end with the Bel Air’s trademark side fins got the chrome treatment. Not very modern, not very environmentally friendly, but stylish for sure.
A 4.63-liter V8 coupled with an automatic transmission assumed its place in the engine bay. The listing didn’t mention a specific horsepower rating, but it is arguably beside the point. Watch the video, and you’ll understand why.
Apparently, the point the company who created this car tried to make is that you don’t need extreme horsepower in a vintage vehicle – what you need is its tactility and sensory feedback. To that end, this Bel Air comes loaded with simple mechanical things like buttons, knobs, switches, handles and doors that are just pleasant to touch. Every single detail reminds you of the things crucially missing from modern cars.
Would you drive a Bel Air like this one?
