Chevy Corvair Corsa gets compared to a Mazda MX-5

As we mentioned before, the Chevrolet Corvair was infamous for being dangerous to drive at nearly any acceleration. Having sorted out some of the safety issues, the company followed up with an even faster Corvair Corsa. Watch it compete against a 2008 Mazda MX-5 on a drag strip.

The Japanese contender packs 166 PS (164 hp / 122 kW) in the engine bay, whereas the Chevrolet packs 180 PS (177 hp / 132 kW). Both weigh about the same, so the advantage should be on the Corvair side of things. Having said that, the MX-5 benefits from modern motorsports-grade tires, which gives it quite an advantage.

Good news for those who have the time to watch the entire seven-minute video: there is a cameo towards the end featuring Doug DeMuro driving an Audi RS6 and a Bugatti Chiron. Other than that, the race itself is really worth seeing, too.
