Unique Chevy C2 Corvette heads to auction

Mecum will be looking for a buyer for this one-off Chevrolet C2 Corvette FSO, which stands for “Factory Shop Order”. Aside from certain exterior styling quirks, the sports car comes equipped with the largest engine it could possibly get at the time. There are no estimations, but we hear that it could easily fetch several hundreds of thousands of USD.

Robert Wingate, owner of an authorized Chevrolet dealership in the United States, received this car from the automaker in the 1960s. He had managed to outsell all competing dealerships for a few years in a row, so the company felt like it owed him a “thank you.” It arrived in the form of this bespoke car.

The exterior was finished in a dark shade of green with white accents and adorned with the trim bits normally reserved for the range-topping Grand Sport variant. Chevrolet also installed six taillights grouped by three at either side instead of the stock four. A bespoke front fascia and side-mounted exhaust pipes rounded off the visual aspect of the build.

As for the engine, it was swapped out for a massive 7.0-liter L71 V8 officially rated at 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW). Wingate opted for a custom four-speed manual transmission with revised gear ratios.

The listing doesn’t reveal the full background of the car, but points out that it underwent a full restoration and is being offered “as-new”.
