Among other things, Barrett-Jackson’s January auction will be dedicated to one of the most unique retromods, or reverse restomods, of our time. Known as the D69 Carbon Daytona, it was built by Pennsylvania-based Exomod Concepts on the chassis of a 2022 Challenger Hellcat Redeye.
The work started with the removal of nearly all standard bodywork. Newly fabricated panels were then installed to imitate the 1969 Daytona, one of America’s most popular muscle cars of that decade. Aside from obvious design cues like a tapered front end and a large rear wing, Exomod took care to dial in smaller parts, like the side air vents and the taillights. It may not look like a 1:1 carbon copy, but the car is nonetheless a very faithful recreation of the classic.
The interior and the powertrain were left as is. That’s not much of an issue, because the Charger’s 6.2-liter Hemi V8 is good for 808 PS (797 hp / 594 kW) and 959 Nm (707 lb-ft) of torque in the Redeye version. The transmission is eight-speed automatic, and the tuner claims the flooring had to be realigned in order to accommodate a bespoke exhaust system.
According to the listing, the whole project took around 3,400 hours to complete. It has since clocked in around 500 km (310 miles). It went up on sale this summer, but the owner declined the $252,000 top offer. There are no price estimations this time around, but that figure should give you something to think about.
