Ferrari says it’s had enough of tacky OEM tuning requests

As we reported just a few days ago, Ferrari made a tidy profit customizing its vehicles for V.I.P. clients last year. Well, it is now official that the customization spree has gone too far and needs checking before it hurts the brand image.

The corresponding statement was made this weekend by Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna, who complained that some customers had “too extravagant” tastes and “bizarre” requests. If the venerable Italian automaker had allowed them to have their way with the cars, they would have eventually brought down many decades’ worth of brand image.

Moving forward, Ferrari is resolute not to let these customers ruin its image – at least, not via OEM-sanctioned in-house tuning programs. To us, it sounds like aftermarket firms like Novitec are about to get a ton of extra orders for no effort on their part.
