Tuned, tender-blue Ferrari F40 heading to auction

An unlikely Ferrari F40 in Mint Green found a buyer willing to part with nearly two million USD at the Monterey Car Week last year. This year’s Monterey event will be attended by a no less exotic F40 model: one wearing an Azzurro Hyperion paint job.

The listing at RM Sotheby’s specifies that the coupe had barely covered 32,000 km (less than 20,000 miles) in its 33 years of existence. It wore Ferrari’s trademark red from the factory, but went to an owner in UK who ultimately got bored of it and decided to freshen it up.

The job was carried out by Furlonger Specialist Cars in 2021. The car ended up with a slammed suspension, 18-inch custom-ordered wheels and beefier Brembo brakes. The owner also ordered its transmission swapped to that of the track-only F40 LM model, a Tubi exhaust system installed and a wastegate upgraded for a richer soundtrack.

The interior seems to be largely original except for blue suede on the bucket seats and the ceiling. We hear that it may sell for up to $2.8 million at the auction scheduled for mid-August.
