Cheap Ford Cougar makes its best Nissan GT-R impression

Montetuning, an aftermarket shop based in Montenegro in southern Europe, has shared a video dedicated to an R35 Nissan GT-R replica it built on the chassis of an unassuming Ford Cougar coupe (1998–2002). The result may scream “cost savings”, but at least it won’t break the bank.

Working with the Cougar, Montetuning equipped it with custom body panels and even stylized the interior to resemble its source of inspiration. The result looks off by many metrics, but the side view is actually rather decent and the sheer amount of effort shows.

Where the original Nissan had 485 PS (478 hp / 357 kW) at its disposal sent to all four wheels via one of the world’s most sophisticated AWD systems of its era, the Ford makes do with a rather basic 2.5-liter Duratec V6 only good for 172 PS (170 hp / 125 kW). The naturally aspirated mill takes it from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just under nine seconds and to a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph).

The replica went up on sale in Croatia the other day priced at an affordable €7,500.
