UK-based Boreham Motorworks has shared some images of the Ten-K, a four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine it developed specifically for its first-gen Ford Escort RS restomod announced in late 2024. The mill is extremely lightweight, can rev up to 10,000 RPM and supplies ample power to the coupe priced from £295,000 (U.S. $370,000).
The mill features a 16-valve header and a dry sump. It is made completely out of aluminum and other alloys and commands a 3D-printed block. Some internals are printed as well, with the company assuring us that their durability is adequate. We are also told that the channel geometry is inspired by Formula 1 race car engines, ensuring an instant and surgically precise throttle response.
Perhaps most impressively, the whole 2.1-liter mill weighs in at just 85 kilos, or 187 pounds. Boreham had originally planned to tune it to 295 PS (291 hp / 217 kW), but now says 325 PS (321 hp / 239 kW) is easily achievable. The demo sample of the engine has already been installed into a prototype vehicle for testing.
Rather than restoring old Escort RS models, Boreham Motorworks plans to build completely new replicas on a custom chassis using carbon-fiber body panels. The interior is envisioned as fully analog and stripped down to the basics. Only 150 units will be made in total.
